ABOUT THE JOB

At Qlayers, we’re transforming how large industrial assets, such as ships and storage tanks, are coated. Our patented robotic technology delivers higher-quality coatings, improves efficiency, and helps reduce the environmental impact of industrial maintenance.

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to help design and develop the next generation of Qlayers’ robotic coating solutions. In this role, you’ll create and integrate mechanical systems, pump units, and spray technologies to deliver innovative surface finishing solutions ready for commercial deployment.

Your key responsibilities:

• Lead the design and development of new and existing systems, focusing on improving coating applications and integration
• Take ownership of mechanical design, prototyping, component selection, and system integration for assigned projects, including design calculations, data analysis, test plans, and reporting
• Conduct rigorous testing and validation to ensure system performance and reliability in high-demand industrial settings
• Collaborate with material scientists to optimize the system for a wide range of substrates and ensure industrial-grade performance
• Work closely with cross-disciplinary teams, including electrical, software, and robotics engineers, to ensure seamless integration of mechanical components with the overall system
• Provide global technical support for both potential and existing customers
• Support internal stakeholders by preparing and providing technical specifications as requested
• Develop and maintain documentation for design processes, testing protocols, and system integration
• Identify and implement improvements to enhance system efficiency and performance.

We are looking for

  • M.Sc./B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, with a focus on mechanical design, product development, and system integration
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and simulation tools (e.g., FEA, CFD)
  • Strong understanding of material science, fluid dynamics, and mechanical system optimization
  • A hands-on approach and willingness to actively work in the lab, troubleshooting and testing prototypes.

Nice-to-Have:

  • Expertise in pump systems is a big plus
  • Familiarity with surface treatment technologies, such as plasma and corona treatment systems, is a plus
  • Experience in industrial coatings, manufacturing processes, or the aerospace and automotive industries
  • Knowledge of ISO 13849 functional safety standards for machinery
  • Familiarity with NEN 3140 and IEC 60204 safety standards and ATEX certification
  • Experience with project management and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Knowledge of advanced manufacturing techniques, such as 3D printing and CNC machining.

Personal qualifications and skills:
