Technology

Qlayers develops a cutting-edge robotic solution to apply protective coatings on industrial assets to protect them against corrosion. Qlayers’ coating technology is versatile and adaptable, transforming manual application into a safe, sustainable and highly precise process. We deliver on-demand customized solutions for various industries, including storage tanks, maritime, wind and more.

Paint conditioning system for a flawless finish

Our coating solutions include a paint conditioning system that ensures paint maintains its optimal consistency and quality.

Qlayers’ systems employ a modified 2K paint pump that dynamically maintains both the pressure and temperature of the mixed paint, allowing for a consistent and stable supply of paint at the spray gun. This enables a smooth and uniform application with accurate overspray and layer thickness control.

This is all made possible by monitoring ambient conditions, paint parameters and integrating active control components.

Seamless automated reporting to transform data into action

Qlayers’ reporting dashboard allows clients to monitor and analyze key parameters of the coating process to gain deeper insights into the robot’s performance. All relevant parameters are sent to the cloud, where the data is post processed into a structured dashboard.

The reporting system enables clients to have full insight into every aspect of the automated painting process by receiving daily reports on parameters such as consumed paint volume, layer thickness, paint temperature & pressure, environmental conditions, coating speed and coverage area. It also allows Qlayers to monitor and provide global remote support to all clients.

Simple control with a touch of a button

Our robotic systems are designed to be intuitive and user-friendly, ensuring that painters of all skill levels can operate them efficiently.

The coating application is a semi-autonomous process controlled from a safe distance through a wireless remote. The operator can command the magnetic crawler to drive a straight lane up or down until the stop button is pressed. The repositioning of the crawler from one lane to another is an automatic manoeuvre initiated by the push of a button.

Robotic application makes the application process less physically intensive for painters and increases workplace safety by reducing hours at heights by up to 80%.

Frequently asked questions

Discover the information you need at your fingertips, making your journey with us smooth and informed.

Do you really avoid overspray?

Our patented spray shielding system enables a controlled airflow that maximizes the amount of paint reaching the surface, leading to a transfer efficiency of about 90% (compared to manual spraying with 50-70%). While a fraction of paint particles might still be released into the environment (<1%), most of the remaining paint is collected by our suction system. This ensures minimal overspray.

What types coating can be used in the system

You can use all coatings that can be applied with an airless spray system and a two-component pump, including zinc-based, dry-fall, silicone, and high-solid coatings (up to 100%). Adapted handling according to the specifications is required for zinc coatings to achieve satisfactory results. Due to the contamination behaviour of silicone, all wet fluid handling equipment (pumps, hoses, filters, paint guns, etc.) should be exclusively used for this purpose after the first use.

We are happy to provide a list of tested coatings and evaluate the applicability of your desired coating upon request.

How do you control layer thickness?

We test each coating in our lab before the first application, through which we can determine its unique spraying behavior and establish baseline parameters such as tip, distance from the wall, overlap, driving speed, pump pressure and paint temperature for a specific layer thickness.

The layer thickness is calculated indirectly with flow data, and can be fine-tuned in the field by adjusting parameters such as paint temperature, pump pressure, distance to the surface, overlap, driving speed, suitable to the given paint and desired thickness.
