The Benelux Enterprise Awards recognise organisations across Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg for innovation, business growth and impact within their sectors. The programme covers a wide span of industries, from technology and manufacturing to professional services.

What the award recognises

The category reflects what Qlayers set out to build: a way of applying protective coatings to large industrial assets that reduces the time crews spend working at height, produces more consistent results across large surfaces, and generates a verifiable record of how the work was carried out.

Industrial coating has historically been a manual discipline. Applying protective systems to storage tanks, vessels and similar structures means scaffolding or rope access, long hours at height, and quality verification based on measurements taken at sampled points. It is demanding work, and the constraints on it are physical rather than procedural.

Robotic application changes part of that equation. The Qlayers system operates as a magnetic crawler on the asset surface, applying coating across the main areas while crews handle detail work, edges and obstructed sections that the robot cannot reach. Application data is captured automatically throughout, giving project teams a record across the full coated area rather than at inspection points alone.

Credit where it is due

Developing equipment for industrial environments is not something a technology company does alone. The system’s current form owes a great deal to the coating contractors and asset owners who took it onto live sites, ran it under real project conditions, and said plainly what worked and what did not.

That feedback is what moves a prototype toward something a project manager will rely on when a tank is out of service and a schedule is running.
